Superintendent Brian Allen

Brian Allen

Brian Allen became Superintendent of the Worcester Public Schools on July 1, 2025, appointed by the School Committee to a three-year term. A Worcester native and graduate of South High Community School, he had spent more than three decades with the city — most recently as Deputy Superintendent, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operations Officer — before taking the top job. He leads one of the largest and most diverse districts in Massachusetts, serving about 24,800 students across 47 schools. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the School Committee.

The School Committee

Worcester’s School Committee has nine members: the Mayor, who chairs; two members elected city-wide; and six from districts. The district seats are a recent change — first elected in November 2023 — that broadened neighborhood and minority representation on the committee. The Committee sets district policy, adopts the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent.
