About 2,009 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Rebecca Kidwell is Superintendent of the Seekonk Public Schools, which means she proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and runs five schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which evaluates her.
You can see the job from the outside at budget time. In the spring of 2026 the Superintendent sat at the Select Board’s table with the School Committee’s Vice Chair while the town worked through what a 3.41 percent school increase, about $308,112, would mean for everything else the town buys. She is not on the town payroll’s chain of command and the Town Administrator cannot overrule her, which is exactly why those two sides have to meet in public and argue it out in front of you.

The School Committee
The Seekonk School Committee has five members elected town-wide to three-year terms: a Chair, a Vice Chair, a Secretary, and two members. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. It meets on average twice a month in the Media Center and Library at Seekonk High School, 261 Arcade Avenue, and the meetings are public, which means a Seekonk student who shows up can speak.

Members serve staggered terms, so a seat comes up at almost every April election. Andrew J. Tessier won the seat on the ballot in April 2026 with 935 votes.
