Town Government
Rehoboth Board of Selectmen
About the Board
Six days after the April 7, 2026 town election, the Board of Selectmen opened its next meeting with a single line of business: reorganize, as the town requires after every Annual Election. Nominations were taken from the floor, closed by motion, and voted one office at a time. That is how Rehoboth chooses the person who runs its Monday nights, and it takes about ten minutes in a public room. The Board is elected town-wide, so every Rehoboth voter helps choose all five members, and each serves a three year term on a staggered schedule that puts a couple of seats on the ballot each spring.
The Board sets town policy, signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on, appoints residents to town boards and committees, and hires and supervises the Town Administrator who runs the town day to day. It also sits as the town’s Licensing Board, which is why an alcohol licence, a car dealer licence, a common victualler licence and a hawker and peddler permit all come before the same five people. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town.
- Hires the Town Administrator and holds that office accountable.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
- Sits as the Licensing Board for alcohol, car dealer, common victualler, amusement and hawker and peddler licences.

All five members are elected town-wide. At the reorganization on April 13, 2026 the Board voted Frederick E. Vadnais, Jr. as Chairman by 5 to 0, Leonard Mills, Jr. as Vice Chairman, and George M. Solas as Clerk, with each nominee abstaining on his own vote. Robert E. Johnson II and Leonard Mills, Jr. had just been returned to the two three year seats on the April 7 ballot.
