Finding the Right Department
Most of what a resident actually needs from the town runs through a department rather than an elected official: paying a bill, pulling a permit, reporting a problem, registering to vote. Every one of these department heads was appointed by the Town Manager under charter 5-2-2, which is why none of their names appears on a ballot and why the Town Manager is the person the Select Board holds responsible for all of them. The same clause requires the list of the positions he appoints to be kept on file in the Select Board’s office and the Town Clerk’s office.
