Who Represents Medway

Six people speak for Medway above the town line, and one of them depends on your address. The town is split between two Massachusetts House districts, so the first thing to know is which side of the line your street is on. One state senator carries the whole town, one member of Congress carries it in the U.S. House, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Medway included. Between them they cover everything from a state road repair to a federal grant for your school.

State Senator

A state senator votes the state budget, files bills, and sits on the joint committees where most bills live or die. All of Medway sits inside the Middlesex and Norfolk district, so there is no line to check before you write. Senator Spilka is the President of the Massachusetts Senate, which means she also decides which bills reach the floor of her chamber.

State Representatives

Medway is split between two House districts, so which representative is yours depends on where in town you live. Both of them are listed here, and the lookup at the bottom of this page settles it in about ten seconds.

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Representative Roy serves as a Second Division Chair in House leadership and sits on the House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight and the House Committee on Operations, Facilities and Security. Representative Soter sits on the House Committee on Human Resources and Employee Engagement and on the Joint Committees on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, on Higher Education, and on Cannabis Policy. A bill goes to a joint committee first, so knowing which committees your representative sits on tells you which subjects he can move early.

In Washington

All of Medway sits in the Second Congressional District, one of nine in Massachusetts. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats, and both of them represent you as much as any Medway voter.

Representative McGovern sits on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Rules, the committee that decides the terms on which a bill reaches the floor of the U.S. House.

Because Medway is split between the 10th Norfolk and the 8th Worcester, your street decides which representative is yours. Either lookup takes about ten seconds and settles it:
