Medway Select Board
About the Board
Medway’s charter calls the Select Board the chief executive office of the town, and then, in the same section, tells its members to stay out of the daily running of any department. Both halves are deliberate. Section 3-2-2 vests the town’s executive power in the board and makes it the chief policy making agency, and the sentence right after it says that nothing in the section authorises a member, or a majority of them, to become involved in the day to day administration of a town agency. That is what a Town Manager form of government looks like on paper: the board decides what the town is for, and a professional it hires decides how the work gets done.
All five members are elected town-wide, so every Medway voter helps choose all five, and section 3-2-1 gives each a three year term on a staggered schedule that puts one or two seats on the ballot every May.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town, and is responsible for coordinating the work of every other elected and appointed board except the School Committee.
- Hires the Town Manager by at least 3 affirmative votes, and can remove one only by 4, after a written preliminary resolution and, if the manager asks for it, a public hearing.
- Controls the warrant, issuing the call for every town meeting and deciding, article by article, what business reaches the floor.
- Is the town’s licensing board, which is why a liquor licence, a one day permit or a common victualler’s licence is granted in this room.
- Appoints Town Counsel, the Board of Assessors, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Conservation Commission, the Affordable Housing Committee, the Capital Improvements Committee, the Disability Commission and the Community Preservation Committee members.
Board Members
After each annual town election the board reorganizes and elects its own officers. At the meeting of June 1, 2026, the first after the May 19 election, it voted three times, 5 in favour and none opposed each time: Dennis Crowley as Chair, Maryjane White as Vice Chair, and Frank Rossi as Clerk.

Meetings & How to Participate
- When: about twice a month, most often on a Monday evening at 7:00 pm, in Sanford Hall at Town Hall, 155 Village Street.
- Agendas & minutes: posted at medwayma.gov/meetings, searchable by board and by date, with the packet attached to the agenda.
- Watch: meetings are carried live and archived by Medway Cable Access.
- Public comment: the board opens most meetings with it, and residents give their name and street and speak. Check the agenda for the procedure.
- Volunteer: the board publishes a live list of committees with vacancies on its own page, and takes a letter of interest by email to bos@medwayma.gov or by post to the Select Board’s Office, 155 Village St, Medway, MA 02053.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and the bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.
