Town Government
Holliston Select Board
About the Board
Three people. That is the whole Select Board, and every Holliston voter helps choose all three, to staggered three-year terms that put one seat on the ballot most springs. A board of three is small enough that two members are a majority and any two of them meeting on town business is a public meeting, which is a real constraint on how business gets done here. Look at the ballot line and you will see something else: it reads Select Board and Highway Surveyor, because in Holliston the same election fills both offices in the same three people.
Under Chapter 405 of the Acts of 2024 this board sets town policy. It appoints the Town Manager who runs the town day to day and can remove him by majority vote, it ratifies his appointment of the police chief, the fire chief, the public works director and the assistant town manager, it appoints residents to most town boards, and it signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town.
- Hires the Town Manager and can remove him by a majority vote.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
Board Members
All three members are elected town-wide. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and elects its own officers, and it does it in public with a recorded vote. At the meeting of June 8, 2026 the board voted three times, each time 2 to 0 with the person being elected abstaining: Damon M. Dimmick as Chair, Benjamin R. Sparrell as Clerk, and Christina Hein as Vice Chair. Those minutes were approved on July 27, 2026.

Meetings & How to Participate
- When: Mondays, usually twice a month, at 7:00 pm at Holliston Town Hall, 703 Washington Street. The town posts each agenda in advance.
- Agendas & minutes: posted on the town’s Agenda Center at townofholliston.us, where the Select Board’s own category runs back through 2024.
- Watch: Holliston Cable Access records and streams town meetings, and Annual Town Meeting voted its funding as Article 22 on May 11, 2026.
- Public comment: residents may address the board, and the agenda carries the procedure. On June 8, 2026 a resident used it to ask the board to build a snow removal policy for commercial properties, and the board agreed to start work on it in July with an October Town Meeting article in view.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.
Public hearings and meetings are where residents shape town decisions.
