The Superintendent
Dr. Margaret Marotta, Ed.D.
Dr. Margaret Marotta has served as Superintendent of Haverhill Public Schools since July 2018. She came to Haverhill with about 25 years of experience in education and human services, having spent much of her career in district-wide urban leadership roles.
Before Haverhill, Marotta worked for the Salem Public Schools as director of pupil personnel services and, most recently, as an assistant superintendent. Earlier in her career she served as assistant director of special education for the Boston Public Schools, as a special education team chairperson for the Peabody Public Schools, and with the Federation for Children with Special Needs. She is supported by Assistant Superintendent Bonnie Antkowiak.

The School Committee
The Haverhill School Committee has 11 members: seven elected by ward, three elected at-large, and the mayor, who serves as chair by virtue of office. Members serve two-year terms. Mayor Melinda E. Barrett chairs the committee. Half of the elected committee took office as newcomers in January 2026, the largest turnover in the board’s modern history.
