Tim MacDonald
About 5,000 Braintree students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Tim MacDonald has led Braintree Public Schools as Superintendent since July 2025. He runs a system of nine schools, proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and answers to the elected School Committee. MacDonald was already a familiar face inside the Braintree schools when the committee chose him for the top job. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the School Committee, which makes that elected board the public’s lever over the schools.

The School Committee
Braintree’s School Committee has seven seats: six members elected by Braintree voters, plus the Mayor, who sits as an ex-officio member under the town charter. The committee elects its own chair from among the elected members, currently Justin A. Rollo. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day.
