One number here is a civics fact rather than an education one. Per-pupil spending is not set in this building or by the Superintendent. It starts with the Superintendent’s budget, goes to the elected School Committee, and then to the same Town Meeting and the same ballot box that decide everything else. On May 16, 2026 the town put seven separate Proposition 2 1/2 questions to its voters, and Question Three was the School Department. It carried 1,307 yes to 1,209 no out of 2,524 ballots cast, a margin of 98 votes across five precincts, which is a useful thing to know the next time someone tells you a single ballot decides nothing.
