High needs is a state count, not a score. It includes every student who is from a low income household, learning English, or receiving special education services, and counts each one only once. The median across all 395 Massachusetts districts is 46.6 percent.

Academic Performance & Context
Williamstown’s four-year graduation rate was 95.8%. MCAS results, graduation rates, and accountability data are published and updated each year by DESE. Because these change annually, this guide links to the live state profile rather than reprinting numbers that quickly go stale.
One number here is a civics fact rather than an education one. The school budget is not set by the Superintendent alone. It is a regional assessment that goes to the Town Meetings of Williamstown and Lanesborough, where the registered voters who show up decide it. Williamstown’s 222nd annual Town Meeting, on May 19, 2026, did exactly that: from the floor, residents amended the schools assessment upward by $120,000 to fund a math interventionist at Williamstown Elementary that the district budget had not funded, and the meeting passed it. That is the school budget being written in the room, by the voters in it.
