Michael A. McCabe
Michael A. McCabe is the Mayor of Westfield, first elected in 2021 and sworn in on January 3, 2022. In November 2025 he won a third two-year term, defeating challenger Andrew Mullen with about 75% of the vote. A lifelong member of the Greater Westfield community, McCabe served 36 years with the Westfield Police Department, retiring as a captain, and has taught law-enforcement courses at Westfield State University. He holds a B.S. in Criminology (1984) and a master’s in Criminal Justice (1994) from Westfield State and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He has served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield and Baystate Noble Hospital and on the Stanley Park Board of Trustees, and volunteers as a cross-country coach at Westfield High School. His third-term priorities include a new police headquarters, a new hospital emergency department, and state development of the Westfield Mass Pike interchange.

What the Mayor Does
As Westfield’s chief executive, the Mayor leads the city’s day-to-day operations and sets its policy direction.
- Prepares the budget: proposes the annual city budget for City Council review and adoption.
- Appoints leadership: names department heads and members of most boards and commissions.
- Signs or vetoes ordinances: can veto Council actions, subject to a Council override.
- Chairs the School Committee: serves as chairperson by virtue of the office.
The Administration
The Mayor’s Office coordinates services across the city’s departments and serves as the central point of contact for residents.

- Public Works & Engineering: roads, water, and infrastructure across 251 miles of city streets.
