Community Organizations

Local history, a regional land trust the town helped found, a library older than the state law that protects it, and two newsrooms that cover your own town meetings. Several of these are how a resident with no title at all ends up in the room.

Community Organizations

Organization	What they do & contact
Wayland Museum and Historical Society	Collects and preserves the town’s history and runs the Wayland Museum. Its work is often funded through Community Preservation Act money that Town Meeting votes project by project.
Sudbury Valley Trustees	The regional land trust that Wayland and Sudbury residents established in 1953, in part to protect the river meadows the first settlers farmed. It protects land across the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord river valleys.
Wayland Free Public Library	The town’s public library at 5 Concord Road, founded in 1848 and a member of the Minuteman Library Network. Its Board of Library Trustees is elected town-wide, so this is a board you can run for. 508-358-2311.
WayCAM	Wayland Community Access and Media: public, educational and government programming, including coverage of town meetings and board meetings, live and on demand. It also teaches production.
The Wayland Post	Wayland’s local newsroom, covering news, community, sports, public safety, letters to the editor and legal notices. It is the fastest way to find out what your Select Board did on Monday.

Council on Aging	At 8 Andrew Avenue: transportation for seniors, fitness and classes, outreach, and help with benefits, housing and health insurance. COA Director Julie Secord. 508-358-2990.
Recreation Department	The Town Beach, summer camps, fields and playgrounds, and after-school activities. Recreation Director Katherine Brenna, CPRP. 508-358-3660.
Wayland Youth and Family Services	Counseling, prevention work with teenagers, and referrals for families, open weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Director Jason Verhoosky. 508-358-4293.
Conservation lands and trails	Open dawn to dusk for hiking, dog walking, picnicking, snowshoeing, skiing, canoeing and fishing. Cow Common and Heard Farm are managed as grassland bird habitat under a plan from the Massachusetts Audubon Society. 508-358-3669.
