Dr. Sonia E. Dinnall
Dr. Sonia E. Dinnall is both the first woman and the first Black woman to lead Springfield Public Schools, a historic distinction in a district she has called home her entire life. A proud product of SPS, Dr. Dinnall attended Memorial, Talmadge, Warner, and Kiley schools and graduated from Classical High School. She returned to the district as a science teacher at Forest Park Middle School in 1991, then advanced to guidance counselor, Guidance Department chair, Acting Director of Student Support Services, and ultimately Supervisor of Student Support Services before moving into district-level administration in 2007. After years as deputy superintendent, she was appointed to her current role on a four-year contract effective July 15, 2024. With over 30 years in education, she has been recognized by the Obama Administration for her commitment to educational equity. Under her leadership, Springfield Public Schools students earned more than $14 million in scholarships in a single year.

The School Committee
The Springfield School Committee consists of seven members: Mayor Domenic J. Sarno serves as Chairman ex officio; two members are elected at-large citywide; and four members are elected by district (each covering two wards). Elected members serve four-year terms. The Committee elects a Vice-Chairperson from among the six elected members each year. Meetings are held at City Hall, Room 220; contact the School Committee office at (413) 787-7100 x55112.
