Anna Nolin
Anna Nolin became Superintendent of Newton Public Schools on July 1, 2023. She runs the district day to day: the staff, the academic programs, and the budget the School Committee approves, across Newton’s 21 schools and roughly 11,500 students. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the School Committee.

The School Committee
Newton’s School Committee has nine members: eight elected to represent the city’s eight wards, plus the Mayor, who serves as an ex-officio member. The committee hires and evaluates the superintendent, adopts the school budget, and sets the policy that reaches into every classroom. Alicia Piedalue of Ward 7 chairs the committee, and Jason Bhardwaj of Ward 3 is vice chair.
