Who Represents Millbury

Five people speak for Millbury above the town line, and there is no district boundary inside the town to check first. One state representative and one state senator carry the whole town in the Massachusetts Legislature, one member of Congress carries it in the U.S. House, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Millbury included. Between them they cover everything from a repair on Route 146 to a federal grant for your school.

State Senator

A state senator votes the state budget, files bills, and sits on the joint committees where most bills live or die. Senator Moore sits on the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government, which is the committee a home rule petition from a town like Millbury travels through, and on the joint committees for public safety, the environment, financial services, higher education, and bonding and capital expenditures. All of Millbury sits inside the Second Worcester district, so there is no district line to check before you write.

State Representative

Millbury is not split. The entire town sits in the 7th Worcester House district, so one representative answers for every street in it.

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Representative Frost is the Second Assistant Minority Leader in the House and sits on the House Committee on Rules and the Joint Committee on Election Laws, which is the committee that handles how and when you get to vote.

In Washington

All of Millbury sits in the Second Congressional District, one of nine in Massachusetts. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats, and both of them represent you as much as any Millbury voter.

Representative McGovern sits on the House Committee on Rules and the House Committee on Agriculture, which together reach both the traffic control of the House floor and the federal school meal and nutrition programs.
