Millbury Board of Selectmen
About the Board
All five members of the Board of Selectmen are elected town-wide, so every Millbury voter helps choose all of them, and Section 3-2(a) of the charter gives each a three year term on a staggered schedule that puts a seat or two on the ballot every April. Section 3-2(b) is blunt about what that buys: the executive powers of the Town are vested in this board, which is the chief executive office and the chief policy making agency of the Town. The board appoints the Town Manager, Town Counsel, the Chief of Police and the Board of Fire Engineers, it is the town’s licensing authority, and it signs the warrant that decides what Town Meeting gets to vote on. The same section draws a line: no selectman may step into the day to day running of any department. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town, and is named in the charter as the chief executive office.
- Hires the Town Manager under Section 3-2(e), for an indefinite term, and can remove the office by a majority of the full board.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
- Licenses the town’s businesses, which is why liquor, common victualler and motor vehicle dealer hearings fill so much of its agenda.
Board Members
All five members are elected town-wide. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers, and the Acting Town Manager opens the floor for the nominations. At the reorganization of May 12, 2026, two weeks after the annual election, the board voted unanimously three times: Mary Krumsiek as Chairman, Brian A. Sora as Vice Chairman, and Nicholas Lazzaro as Clerk.

Meetings & How to Participate
- When: at 6 pm at the Millbury Municipal Building, 127 Elm Street, roughly twice a month. The town posts each agenda in advance.
- Agendas & minutes: posted on the town’s Agenda Center at millburyma.gov, and you can sign up for an alert when a new one goes up.
- Watch: meetings are broadcast live on Charter channel 191 and Verizon channel 26, replayed through the week, and archived in the town’s video library.
- Public comment: every meeting ends with a roundtable discussion and citizens’ feedback. Check the agenda for the procedure.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and the bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.
