About 2,708 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. M. Martin O’Shea leads Longmeadow Public Schools from the central office at 535 Bliss Road, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running six schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, and charter section 3-3(c) gives that committee the appointment outright. Note what this means for the money: the school budget is the one large piece of town spending the Town Manager does not build. Section 7-2 makes the School Committee hold its own public hearing on it, adopt it, and hand it to the Town Manager at least fifteen days before her own deadline. She then carries it into the total town budget, and if she recommends less than the committee voted she has to state in writing why. Then it goes to the same Town Meeting that votes everything else.

The School Committee
The Longmeadow School Committee has seven members, all elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms under charter section 3-3(a). Longmeadow is a single-town district, so all seven answer to Longmeadow voters and nobody else. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and appoints and evaluates the Superintendent. It elects its own officers each June, and it did so on June 23, 2026, at the meeting that also welcomed the two members the town had elected three weeks earlier. Meetings are held at the central office, 535 Bliss Road, in Room A15, and you can join in person or by Zoom, which means a Longmeadow student who shows up can speak.

Each member has an official school email address, published on the district’s own School Committee members page, and the district notes that correspondence to the committee is part of the public record. Three of these seven were on the ballot on June 2, 2026: Nicole M. Choiniere with 849 votes, Matthew D. Casale with 742 and Bisrat Abebe with 664.
