Longmeadow Select Board
About the Board
The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Longmeadow voter helps choose all five, and charter section 3-2(a) gives each a three-year term on a staggered schedule that puts one or two seats on the ballot every June. Section 3-2(b) puts it plainly: the executive powers of the town are vested in this board. It appoints the Town Manager who runs the town day to day, and it takes four of the five votes to do it. It appoints Town Counsel, the registrars of voters and the members of most appointed town boards. It sits as the town’s water and sewer commissioners and as its license board. And it signs the warrant that decides what Town Meeting gets to vote on. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town, and the charter calls it the primary policy body.
- Hires the Town Manager on a vote of at least four members, and approves or rejects every department head she appoints, within fifteen days.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote, and delivering a plain summary of every article to every household two weeks beforehand.
Board Members
All five members are elected town-wide. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers. On June 15, 2026, thirteen days after the annual election, it did that three times in a row, each vote 5 to 0: Dan Zwirko as Chair, Shelly Maynard-DeWolf as Vice Chair, and Andrew Lam as Clerk. The minutes recording those votes were themselves approved on July 20, 2026, which is what makes them the fact rather than a first draft.

The town routes contact to the board through the Select Board business office at the Greenwood Center, 231 Maple Road, which can be reached at 413-565-4110, and through selectboard@longmeadowma.gov. The town notes that mail to that address goes on the next agenda. The member roster, with each member’s own town email, is posted on the town’s own Select Board page.
Meetings & How to Participate
- When: generally the first and third Monday evenings of the month, on a calendar the board publishes for the whole year, at the Greenwood Center, 231 Maple Road. Meetings are hybrid, so you can join by Zoom instead of driving.
- Agendas & minutes: posted on the town’s Agenda Center at longmeadowma.gov, and you can sign up for an alert when a new one goes up.
- Public comment: the agenda carries a Resident Comments item. Check it for the procedure.
- Open Meeting Law: the town notes that a majority of the board cannot answer an email outside a posted meeting. That is the law that keeps their deliberations in public, and it is the reason to send your question to the whole board and watch it appear on an agenda.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.
