Who Represents Hanover
Five people speak for Hanover above the town line, and there is no district boundary inside the town to check first. One state representative and one state senator carry the whole town in the Massachusetts Legislature, one member of Congress carries it in the U.S. House, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Hanover included. Between them they cover everything from a state road repair to a federal grant for your school.
State Senator
Norfolk and Plymouth District · Democrat
John Keenan
State House: Room 413-F · (617) 722-1494
Email: john.keenan@masenate.gov
A state senator votes the state budget, files bills, and sits on the joint committees where most bills live or die. Senator Keenan sits on eight of them, including Municipalities and Regional Government, Election Laws, Public Health and Revenue. All of Hanover sits inside the Norfolk and Plymouth district, which means there is no district line to check before you write.
State Representative
Hanover is not split. The entire town sits in the 5th Plymouth House district, so one representative answers for every street in it.
5th Plymouth District · Republican
David DeCoste
State House: Room 542 · (617) 722-2489
Email: david.decoste@mahouse.gov
A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Representative DeCoste sits on five joint committees, including Transportation, Housing, and Public Service, which are the committees a road, a housing bill or a municipal retirement question has to pass through.
In Washington
All of Hanover sits in the Ninth Congressional District, one of nine in Massachusetts, and it is the district that runs from the South Shore out to Cape Cod and the Islands. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats, and both of them represent you as much as any Hanover voter.
9th Congressional District · Democrat
William R. Keating
Washington: 2372 Rayburn House Office Building · 202-225-3111
