The Mayor
Charlie Sisitsky
Charlie Sisitsky is Framingham’s mayor, first sworn in on January 1, 2022 and re-elected to a second four-year term that began January 1, 2026 — the first mayor re-elected since Framingham became a city. A Framingham resident since 1971, he raised four children who all graduated from the city’s public schools. He brings more than forty years of public-administration experience: he served as Planning Director in Medford and later as Planning Director and Director of Public Works in Natick for over two decades. Locally, he was an elected member of the Framingham Board of Selectmen from 1998 to 2018 and, after the city charter took effect, served as the District 1 City Councilor. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from WPI and a master’s degree in Community Planning and Area Development from the University of Rhode Island.

What the Mayor Does
Under Framingham’s home-rule charter, the executive and administrative powers of the city are vested in the mayor. As the city’s elected chief executive, the mayor leads a strong-mayor form of government:
- Runs the city: directs and supervises all municipal departments and enforces the charter, ordinances, and laws.
- Proposes the budget: prepares and submits the annual city budget to the City Council.
- Appoints leadership: appoints department heads and many board and commission members.
- Veto power: may veto ordinances passed by the City Council, which the Council can override.
The Administration
The mayor leads an administration of professional staff and department heads who deliver services across the city — from public works and public health to planning, finance, parks, and public safety.
- Chief of Staff & mayoral staff: coordinate policy, communications, and constituent services from the Memorial Building.
- Department heads: appointed by the mayor to run the city’s roughly three dozen departments and divisions.
- Boards & commissions: resident volunteers, many mayor-appointed, who advise on everything from zoning to disability access.
