A newsroom that sits in the room at every Select Board meeting, a historical society older than the town’s charter, a library that hands you the key to a Revolutionary flag, and a food bank run out of Town Hall. Every one of them takes volunteers.

| The Bedford Citizen | Bedford’s own local newsroom. Its reporter is in the attendance line of the Select Board’s minutes meeting after meeting, and it covers the School Committee, the town elections, and the legal notices the Conservation Commission posts before every hearing. | Bedford Historical Society | An independent non-profit founded in 1893 to collect, protect and restore the objects and records of Bedford’s history. It runs the Job Lane Farm Museum at 16 South Road, mounts exhibits in town buildings, and runs a lecture series on local history. |
| Bedford Free Public Library | The town’s public library, at 7 Mudge Way, 781-275-9440. It keeps the Bedford Flag and the town’s own local history collection. Its seven Trustees are one of the nine bodies Bedford voters elect directly, so this is a board you can run for. |
| Friends of the Bedford Free Public Library | The volunteer group that raises money for library programs, museum passes and equipment the town budget does not cover. One of the easiest volunteer doors in town to walk through. |
| Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area | A federally designated heritage area covering Bedford and its neighbours. Its Bedford page maps what happened here on the morning of April 19, 1775 and the addresses that still survive. |
