Who Represents Whitman

Whitman is one of the simpler towns in Massachusetts to write to. The whole town sits inside one state senate district, one state house district and one congressional district, so there is no boundary to check before you send a letter: the same five people speak for every address in town. Between them they cover everything from a local road project to a federal transit rule.

State Senator

The Second Plymouth and Norfolk district ties Whitman to Brockton and to Hanson, the town it shares its schools with, so a single senator carries the school funding, transportation and housing questions of the whole cluster. Brady has held the seat since 2015 and serves as Senate chair of the Joint Committee on Public Service. All of Whitman sits inside the district, which means there is no line to check before you write.

State Representative

The 7th Plymouth district is three towns, and Whitman is one of them undivided. Sullivan-Almeida has represented it since 2019 and is the ranking minority member of the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities. A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office.

In Washington

All of Whitman sits in the 8th Congressional District, which runs from Boston south through Quincy and the South Shore into Brockton. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats, and both of them represent Whitman along with the rest of the Commonwealth.

Lynch has held the seat since 2001, after eighteen years as a structural ironworker and a term as president of Iron Workers Local 7.
