Dr. Fran Roy
About 1,511 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Dr. Fran Roy leads Westport Community Schools, which is three buildings: Alice A. Macomber School, Westport Elementary School and Westport Middle-High School. She proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and runs the district day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which evaluates her each year and can decide to hire someone else.
Her own letter to the district gives an official start date of July 1, and says that before it she toured all three school buildings, attended Town Meeting, and went to the Westport Elementary promotion ceremony. That order matters more than it sounds: in a town whose budget is voted in a school auditorium by whoever walks in, the person running the schools has to be able to explain them to a room.

The School Committee
The Westport School Committee has five members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. Westport runs its own single-town district, so every seat belongs to Westport voters and no seat is shared with another community. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day.
One seat was on the April 14, 2026 ballot and Evan Gendreau was returned with 1,089 votes. Thirteen days later, at a special meeting on April 27, the committee reorganized: Fred Melnyk nominated Evan Gendreau for Chair, seconded by Caitlin Sampers, and every member voted yes on the roll call. Caitlin Sampers nominated Jason Pacheco for Vice Chair, seconded by Fred Melnyk, and that roll call was unanimous too.

- Special meetings: the committee also meets for budget work sessions and public hearings, posted the same way.
