Michael Woodlock
About 1,546 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Michael Woodlock leads Tyngsborough Public Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the elementary, middle and high schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which evaluates him against goals it publishes and votes on, and which runs a standing Superintendent Evaluation Subcommittee to do it. Note what this means for the money: the school budget is the one large piece of town spending the Town Manager does not build. It comes from the Superintendent to the School Committee, and then to the same Town Meeting that votes everything else.

The School Committee
Seven seats, elected town-wide to staggered terms, and one of them is empty right now. On June 9, 2026 the committee held its organizational meeting and voted three times, 6 to 0 each time, to seat Ryan McMahon as Chair, Rebecca Stanton as Vice Chair and Burt Buchman as Recording Secretary. At that same meeting the Superintendent read out a letter from Rob Mullin resigning with immediate effect, and the Town Clerk was asked to advertise the opening. The district’s own members page still shows that seat vacant, with a term that runs to 2027. If you know somebody who wants a real say in how this town’s schools are run, that is a live seat and a short queue.

What the Committee Decides
- Hires and evaluates the Superintendent, and it is the only body that can.
- Votes the school budget before it goes to Town Meeting with the rest of the town’s spending.
- Sets school policy, through a standing Policy Subcommittee that meets on its own posted schedule.
- Approves every hire, resignation and retirement the Superintendent brings forward, in public, by name, at a posted meeting.
- Meets in public on a schedule posted in the town’s own Agenda Center, with agendas and approved minutes filed there alongside every other town board.
The Schools
- Tyngsborough Elementary School, 205 Westford Road, preschool through grade 5.
- Tyngsborough Middle School, 50 Norris Road.
- Tyngsborough High School, 36 Norris Road.
- Greater Lowell Technical High School, the regional vocational school Tyngsborough students may attend instead. The town’s own Media department airs that committee’s meetings alongside Tyngsborough’s.
School decisions are made in public meetings that anyone can attend.
