Tyngsborough Select Board

About the Board

The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Tyngsborough voter helps choose all five, and the seats are staggered so a couple of them are on the ballot every May. The town’s own page calls these five the chief municipal officers of Tyngsborough. They appoint the Town Manager who runs the town day to day, they keep the appointment of town counsel, the town accountant and eight named boards under the 2022 Town Manager Act, and they sign the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.

  • Sets policy and direction for the whole town.
  • Hires the Town Manager by majority vote of the full board, sets his pay each year, and reviews his performance in writing.
  • Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.

Board Members

All five members are elected town-wide. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers, and the Town Manager walks it through the procedure. At the reorganization of June 1, 2026, the first board meeting after the May 19 election, the board voted 5 to 0 three times: Jackie Geilfuss as Chair, Eric Eldridge as Vice Chair, and Adele Coughlin as Clerk.

Meetings & How to Participate

  • When: 6:00 p.m. every other Monday, in the Community Room at Town Hall, 25 Bryant Lane. The town posts each agenda in advance.
  • Agendas & minutes: posted on the town’s Agenda Center at tyngsboroughma.gov, and you can sign up for an alert when a new one goes up.
  • Watch: meetings are carried by Tyngsborough Media on the Government channel, Verizon 29 and Comcast 8, and archived on the town’s video on demand service.
  • Public comment: the agenda sets aside Citizen and Business Time. Each speaker gets three minutes, or two if more than six people want to be heard, and the period runs fifteen minutes unless the board votes itself more.
  • Take an appointment with you: businesses and business owners are invited to meet the board during that same period, and the Town Manager’s Office books the slot at 978-649-2300 ext. 100.
  • Town Meeting: for the budget and bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.

Public hearings and meetings are where residents shape town decisions.
