Sandwich School Committee & Superintendent
The Superintendent
Dr. Joseph P. Maruszczak, Ed.D.
About 2,081 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Dr. Joseph P. Maruszczak is the Superintendent of Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running three schools day to day from the district office at 270 Quaker Meetinghouse Road in East Sandwich. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, and the committee names that as the first of its three jobs: hire and supervise the Superintendent, adopt and manage the budget, and set policy for the district. Note what this means for the money: the school budget is the one large piece of town spending the Town Manager does not build. It comes from the Superintendent to the School Committee, and then to the same Town Meeting that votes everything else.

The School Committee
Charter section 4.1 puts a seven-member School Committee on the ballot, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. Sandwich is a single-town district, so all seven answer to Sandwich voters and nobody else. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent. It reorganizes after each annual town election and publishes its own officers. Meetings are held at Sandwich Town Hall, 130 Main Street, and they are public, which means a Sandwich student who shows up can speak.

The Other School Committee
Sandwich sits inside a second school district as well, and it has a second elected committee to match. The town is an assessed member of the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School District, so Sandwich students can attend Upper Cape Tech and Sandwich taxpayers pay a share of running it. The Finance Committee’s own message in the 2026 Annual Town Meeting warrant records that the Upper Cape Tech assessment rose 6.42 percent for the coming year. That committee posts its agendas and minutes on the town’s own Agenda Center, right beside the Sandwich School Committee’s, and its meetings are open in the same way.
