Dr. Thea Stovell Herndon
One educator answers for every public school in Randolph. Dr. Thea Stovell Herndon has led Randolph Public Schools since 2018, and she did not arrive as an outsider: she rose through the district as a principal before taking the top job. In 2026 the state recognized her with the Bobbie D’Alessandro Women’s Leadership Award. She proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and answers to the elected School Committee that hires her. “One of our mottos in Randolph,” she has said, “is that we want to bring the joy back to learning.” The superintendent reports to the School Committee, not to the Town Manager.

The School Committee
Randolph’s schools are run by a School Committee of seven: six members elected by the town’s voters, plus one seat reserved for a member of the Town Council. The committee sets policy and the budget for Randolph Public Schools and hires the superintendent. It is the most direct lever a family has over what happens in a Randolph classroom, and its meetings are open to the public.
