Student Population
Melrose enrolls a smaller share of English learners and high-needs students than the state as a whole. That does not mean the district was comfortable. Years of budget cuts pushed the city toward the 2025 override, and the money voters approved is now going into restoring what had been lost, including the return of the team model in grades six and seven at the middle school.
| English learners | 5.9% |
| High needs | 32.4% |
| Per-pupil spending (FY2024) | $16,977 |
Academic Performance & Context
Melrose’s four-year graduation rate was 97.6 percent for the most recent reported cohort, well above the state average. MCAS results, graduation rates, and accountability data are published and updated each year by DESE. Because these change annually, this guide links to the live state profile rather than reprinting numbers that quickly go stale.
