Context
Lawrence teaches a student body with very high needs. A large majority of students are economically disadvantaged, and many are still learning English, often while carrying coursework in it at the same time. The district has been in state receivership since 2011, and in January 2026 the state handed control to a single receiver, Dr. Lauren Woo, while it prepares the elected School Committee to take the schools back.
