Hudson Select Board
About the Board
The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Hudson voter helps choose all five, and section 3-4(b) of the charter gives each member a three year term on a staggered schedule so that at least one seat is on the ballot every spring. The charter does not call this board an advisory body or a figurehead. Section 3-4(d) says outright that “the select board shall be the chief executives of the town.” It appoints the Town Manager who runs the town day to day, it appoints town counsel, the Conservation Commission, the Board of Appeals and the Board of Registrars, and section 3-7(c) gives it every appointment the charter does not hand to somebody else. It also has to approve every department head and every town employee the manager and the department heads want to hire. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town, and the charter calls its members the chief executives.
- Appoints the Town Manager on at least three affirmative votes, for a three year term.
- Approves every hire. No department head and no town employee is appointed without a majority vote of this board.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
Board Members
Every member is elected town-wide. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers, and it does this by motion in open session. At the reorganization of May 18, 2026, one week after the annual election, the board voted 4 to 0 three times: Steven C. Sharek as Chair, Lauren DuBreuil as Vice Chair, and Patrick Thayer as Clerk.

Four cards, five seats, and the gap is the most useful thing on this page. Judy Congdon resigned from the board on April 2, 2026 with two years left in her term, and the town opened nomination papers on May 5 for a Special Town Election on September 1, 2026 to fill the seat. A Hudson voter gets to decide that one on its own, with nothing else on the ballot competing for attention.

Meetings & How to Participate
- When: 7 pm, every other Monday, in the Community Room of the Hudson Police Station at 911 Municipal Drive. Note the address: the board does not meet at Town Hall.
- Agendas & minutes: posted on the town’s Agenda Center at townofhudson.org, and you can sign up for an alert when a new one goes up. The full agenda packet, with every document the board will look at, is published separately on the town’s meeting portal.
- Public comment: residents may address the board, and in June 2026 it adopted a written Public Comment Policy so the procedure is published rather than improvised. Check the agenda before you go.
- Send it in writing: in July 2026 the board’s own Clerk circulated a draft Community Engagement and Resident Feedback Policy for comment and asked residents to email him directly. Watch the town’s News Flash for that kind of open window.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.
