Community Organizations

In a town of about 353 people the community organizations are not a garnish on civic life, they are load-bearing: keeping the town’s history, sharing a library and a senior center with the next town over, and looking after older neighbors. Every one of them takes volunteers.

Organization	What they do
Sons and Daughters of Hawley	The town’s historical society, which keeps Hawley’s records and historic places and works closely with the town Historical Commission.
Tyler Memorial Library	Hawley residents are members of Charlemont’s Tyler Memorial Library, borrowing books and using programs there and across the statewide library network.
Charlemont-Hawley Senior Center	Shared with Charlemont, it meets weekly for a meal and programs at the Charlemont Federated Church on Route 2, and is open to anyone over 60.

Organization	Notes
Council on Aging	Hawley’s own council, chaired by Jennifer Rich with Ann Falwell, Nicole Polier, and Susan Draves; it mails grocery vouchers to seniors and supports the shared senior center.
Town Nurse Program	Public-health nurse Lisa White holds monthly drop-in clinics for Hawley and Charlemont residents through the Franklin Regional Council of Governments.
Hawley Cultural Council	The town committee that channels state grant money to local arts, humanities, and science programs.
