Who Represents Groton

Six people speak for Groton above the town line, and this is one of the towns where your own address decides which of them is yours. Groton is split between two state representative districts, so which representative carries your street depends on where in town you live. One state senator carries the whole town in the Massachusetts Legislature, one member of Congress carries it in the U.S. House, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Groton included. Between them they cover everything from a state road repair to a federal grant for your school.

State Senator

A state senator votes the state budget, files bills, and sits on the joint committees where most bills live or die. All of Groton sits inside the Worcester and Middlesex district, which means there is no district line to check before you write.

State Representatives

Groton is split between two House districts, so the person who speaks for your street depends on where in town you live. Check your address before you write, because a letter to the wrong one of these two will simply be forwarded.

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Margaret R. Scarsdale, first elected in 2022, sits on the House Committee on Ways and Means, where the state budget is built. Danillo A. Sena, in office since 2019 and the first Brazilian-American elected to the Massachusetts Legislature, sits on the House Committee on Climate Action and Sustainability.

In Washington

All of Groton sits in the Third Congressional District, one of nine in Massachusetts. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats, and both of them represent you as much as any Groton voter.

Find Your Exact Legislator

Because Groton is split between the 1st and 37th Middlesex House districts, your state representative depends on your address, while your senator and your member of Congress are the same across town. Either lookup below confirms your exact representative in about ten seconds:
