Greenfield City Council
About the Council
Thirteen people hold the power of the purse in Greenfield, and nine of them are yours by address. The city is divided into nine voting precincts and each one elects a councilor of its own. The other four are elected at-large by every voter in Greenfield. Terms run four years and the seats are staggered, so roughly half the council is on the ballot at each city election. The Mayor writes the budget; the Council is the body that votes it. It also sets the tax rate, passes the ordinances, approves the sale or purchase of city land, and reviews the Mayor’s appointments to the city’s boards and commissions.
- Sets policy and law by adopting and amending city ordinances and voting on city and zoning bylaws.
- Controls the budget by adopting the fiscal year budget, approving appropriations and funding requests, and approving the annual tax rates.
- Reviews the Mayor’s appointments to the city’s multiple member boards and commissions, under Section 2-10 of the charter.
Council Members
The Council opens each year with an organizational meeting, where the senior councilor takes the chair and opens the floor to nominations. At the organizational meeting of January 6, 2026 the Council elected Lora Wondolowski of Precinct 8 as President and John Garrett, an at-large councilor, as Vice President, both unanimously and both to a second term.
