Overview

The Executive Branch enforces the law, manages state agencies, and delivers services across Massachusetts. It is led by the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, and their executive teams.

Lieutenant Governor

Serves as a voting member of the Governor’s Council and assumes the Governor’s duties when the Governor is absent or unavailable.

Governor’s Council

The Governor’s Council reviews judicial nominees, pardons, and warrants for the spending of state funds. It has eight elected members:

Aging and Independence: Services and support for older adults and their caregivers
Economic Development: Business growth, innovation, and economic policy
Education: K-12 and higher education policy
Energy and Environmental Affairs: Sustainability and conservation
Health and Human Services: Public health, welfare, and hospitals
Housing and Livable Communities: Affordable housing and planning
Labor and Workforce Development: Jobs, training, and unemployment
Public Safety and Security: Law enforcement and emergency response
Technology Services and Security: Statewide IT and cybersecurity
Transportation: MassDOT, MBTA, and statewide transportation infrastructure
Veterans Services: Support for veterans and military families
