Essex School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Pamela Beaudoin

About 1,156 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Pamela Beaudoin is the Superintendent of the Manchester Essex Regional School District, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the district’s four schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because the district is regional, that committee answers to two towns at once: three of its seven voting seats are Essex’s and four are Manchester-by-the-Sea’s.

The School Committee

The Manchester Essex Regional School Committee has seven voting members serving staggered three-year terms, three elected by Essex voters and four by Manchester-by-the-Sea voters; the Superintendent and the district’s Operations and Finance Director sit as non-voting members. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. The meetings are public, which means an Essex student who shows up can speak.
