Community Organizations

A town of 1,665 people runs most of its community life through a short list of places, and two of them sit next door to each other on Care Drive. Here is where to find help, a program, a meeting, or a way to volunteer.

In Erving

Erving Public Library	The town library at 2 Care Drive, with youth services and community programs, and a card that works at libraries across Massachusetts. Director Abigail Baines. (413) 423-3348.
Erving Senior and Community Center	The Council on Aging’s home at 1 Care Drive, running meals, activities, transport and outreach for older residents, and available to the wider community. Director Dulcie McAndrews. (413) 423-3649.
Erving Recreation	Youth and community programs and the town’s fields, run by the Recreation Department with an elected Recreation Commission. (413) 422-1187.
Pearl B. Care Museum	The town’s local history museum, overseen by the Museum Committee and the Historical Commission, which keep Erving’s mill and farming records and artifacts.
Erving Cultural Council	The town committee that reviews and awards local grants for arts, humanities and interpretive sciences projects. (413) 422-2800 ext. 1101.
Erving Community Access TV	The town’s public-access channel, which records and carries Select Board and committee meetings so you can watch a vote you could not attend.

Franklin Regional Council of Governments	The regional planning agency for the towns of Franklin County. Erving works with its planning department on the former mill site through the Regional Brownfield Program, and the town’s building inspections come through the Franklin County Cooperative Inspection Program. Veterans’ Services	Benefits, claims, and support for veterans and their families through the regional district office. (413) 772-1571.
The Recorder and Athol Daily News	The two dailies that cover Erving town government, including Town Meeting and the annual town election. Reading them is the cheapest way to know what is coming to a vote.
