Town Government
Charlton Select Board
About the Board
Charlton’s bylaws give the Select Board seven days. Section 50-7 says the Selectmen, within seven days after each Annual Election, shall meet, elect a Chairperson and otherwise organize, and fix the time and place of their regular meetings. In 2026 the election fell on Saturday, May 2, and the board met on Tuesday, May 12, ten days later, and did exactly that in three motions.
All five members are elected town-wide to three year terms, staggered so that only a couple of seats are on the ballot in any spring. The board sets town policy, signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on, appoints residents to many town boards, and hires and supervises the Town Administrator who runs the town day to day. It is also the town’s licensing authority and the overseer of town property. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and strategic direction for the whole town.
- Hires the Town Administrator and holds that office accountable.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
- Is the appointing authority. A letter of interest or a Talent Bank form goes to the Select Board office.
Board Members
After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers. On May 12, 2026 it nominated Stephen Koronis as Chair, David Singer as Vice Chair and Michael Kavorkian as Clerk, and every one of the three votes was unanimous. Seats 4 and 5, held by Koronis and Kavorkian, run to 2029.
