Knief is Superintendent of the Carver Public Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the district day to day. Carver runs its own single-town district, so unlike many of its neighbors it does not share a superintendent or a committee with another town. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation, so the person who runs the schools answers to the five residents the town elects to oversee them.

The School Committee
The Carver School Committee has five members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Carver student who shows up can speak.
