Belmont Select Board

About the Board

The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Belmont voter helps choose all three, and two votes are a majority of the whole board. The board sets town policy, signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on, appoints residents to many town boards, and hires and supervises the Town Administrator who runs the town day to day. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.

  • Sets policy and direction for the whole town.
  • Hires the Town Administrator and holds the administrator accountable.
  • Sets the warrant and the date it closes, and must insert any subject ten registered voters petition for in writing.

Board Members

All three members are elected town-wide. The board chooses one of its own as Chair to run its meetings and another as Vice Chair. Belmont’s bylaws have every board pick its own Chair once a year, so those two titles can move between elections.
