Community Organizations

In a town of a few hundred people, the community organizations are not a garnish on civic life, they are load-bearing: conserving the open land, running the children’s library, and keeping older neighbors connected. Every one of them takes volunteers.

Alford Land Trust	A local land conservation trust that works to conserve Alford’s open land and farms, and holds an annual meeting open to residents.
Susan Smith Anderson Library	The town’s children’s library, with books and programs; its trustees are elected on the town ballot.
Alford Garden Club	A volunteer club that cares for public plantings and shared green spaces around town.

Council on Aging	The town committee for outreach, activities, and services for older residents.
Alford Cultural Council	Distributes small state-funded grants for local arts, humanities, and science programs.
Regional news	Alford has no newspaper of its own; it is covered by The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield and The Berkshire Edge in Great Barrington.
