Adams School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Aaron Dean

About 992 students across Adams and Cheshire start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Aaron Dean is the Superintendent of the Hoosac Valley Regional School District. He proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and runs the district’s schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which evaluates him each year. Because the district is shared, that committee is made up of members from both towns, so a budget question in Adams is decided alongside Cheshire, not separately.

The School Committee

The Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee has seven members, and every one of them is elected at large by all of the voters of Adams and Cheshire together, at each town’s annual election on the first Monday in May. Four members must at all times be residents of Adams and three must be residents of Cheshire, so the four and the three are a residency requirement on one district wide ballot rather than two separate town ballots. An Adams voter helps choose all seven seats. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means an Adams student who shows up can speak.
