Town Government
Adams Board of Selectmen
About the Board
The Board of Selectmen is elected town-wide, so every Adams voter helps choose all five, and each serves a three-year term on a staggered schedule that puts a couple of seats on the ballot each spring. The board sets town policy, signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on, appoints residents to many town boards, and hires and supervises the Town Administrator who runs the town day to day. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town.
- Hires the Town Administrator and holds the Administrator accountable.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
Board Members
All five seats are elected town-wide. The board chooses one of its own as Chair to run its meetings and another as Vice Chair, and it settles those roles at a reorganization after each spring election. After the May 4, 2026 town election the board named Jay Meczywor its Chair and Ann Bartlett its Vice Chair. One of the five seats is currently vacant after a mid-term resignation in May 2026. Under M.G.L. c. 41 s. 10 the remaining selectmen may call a special election to fill it, and they have to call one if two hundred of the town’s registered voters ask them in writing, or twenty percent of the town’s voters, whichever is the smaller number, filed at least a hundred days before the next annual election. Otherwise the seat goes on the ballot at the 2027 annual town election.
