High needs is a state count, not a score. It includes every student who is from a low income household, learning English, or receiving special education services, and counts each one only once. The median across all 396 Massachusetts districts is 46.7 percent.

Academic Performance & Context

Winchendon’s four-year graduation rate was 70.7%. MCAS results, graduation rates, and accountability data are published and updated each year by DESE. Because these change annually, this guide links to the live state profile rather than reprinting numbers that quickly go stale.

One set of numbers here is a civics fact rather than an education one. The buildings your classes meet in are maintained by votes in a room any registered voter can enter. At the Annual Town Meeting of May 18, 2026, Winchendon voters approved the roof projects for all three school buildings, each needing a two-thirds vote: the Murdock Middle High School roof 211 to 93, the Memorial Elementary roof 229 to 106, and the Toy Town Elementary roof 214 to 92, positioning the town for state building-authority support. The same night, the same room passed the FY27 school budget 226 to 121. The people who raised their hands were simply the registered voters who came.
