The Superintendent
Dr. Amy Hartley-Matteson
About 1,949 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Dr. Amy Hartley-Matteson is Superintendent of the Wareham Public Schools, which means she proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and runs four schools day to day. She is new to the job: the Select Board welcomed her at its meeting on July 7, 2026. The charter is blunt about who she works for. The School Committee appoints the Superintendent, fixes the compensation of school employees, and holds the power to discharge her. Five elected residents hire the person who runs your school.

The School Committee
The Wareham School Committee has five members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms, and the district is Wareham’s alone: no other town sits on this committee. It sets district policy, approves the school budget, and appoints and evaluates the Superintendent. Two members of the Select Board also serve as liaisons to it. Like the Select Board, the committee reorganizes after each annual town election: on May 7, 2026, two days after the town election, it elected Geoffrey Swett Chair by 5 to 0, Kevin Brogioli Vice Chair by 4 to 0 with 1 abstention, and Joyce Bacchiocchi Secretary by 4 to 0 with 1 abstention. Its meetings are public, which means a Wareham student who shows up can speak.

Meetings & Participation
- When: roughly once a month. Agendas are posted in the town’s agenda center and on the district website.
- Public comment: residents may address the committee with the chair’s permission. Check the agenda for sign-up details.
- Watch: the committee posts full recordings of its meetings to YouTube, year by year, so a meeting you missed is still watchable.
- Read the minutes: they record who moved what and how each member voted, which is the fastest way to learn what your committee actually argues about.
