Uxbridge Select Board

About the Board

The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Uxbridge voter helps choose all five, and the charter is exact about the shape: a board of selectmen consisting of five members elected for terms of three years each, arranged so that roughly a third of the seats come up every spring. The board hires the Town Manager who runs the town day to day, appoints Town Counsel and a long list of committees, sits as the town’s licensing authority, and develops the warrant that decides what Town Meeting gets to vote on. It also sits as Water and Sewer Commissioners and as Road Commissioners, which is why a water bill and a road repair both end up in front of the same five people.

  • Sets policy for the whole town, and the charter gives it the power to enact rules and regulations on anything not already covered by bylaw, charter or statute.
  • Hires the Town Manager, and can remove him only on the affirmative votes of three or more members after a written resolution and a hearing.
  • Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
  • Licenses the town: alcohol, restaurants, innholders, live entertainment, automobile dealers and the storage of flammables all run through this board.

Board Members

All five members are elected town-wide to three year terms. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers, and in 2026 that took two tries: at the meeting of May 26 the board postponed the reorganization because one member could not attend, and the officers below are the result of the vote that followed. Timothy Johnson joined the board on the strength of the May 19, 2026 election, in which he took 177 of the 236 votes cast.

Meetings & How to Participate

  • When: typically the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 pm, in the Lower Town Hall Meeting Room at 21 South Main Street. When the board sits as Water and Sewer Commissioners the meeting starts at 4:00 pm.
  • Agendas & minutes: posted on the town’s Agenda Center, at least 48 hours ahead, and you can sign up for an alert when a new one goes up.
  • Watch: Uxbridge Community Television carries board meetings live and on demand.
  • Public comment: every agenda carries a Citizens’ Forum, and the board’s own minutes show residents using it to raise policy questions before the board votes them.
  • Town Meeting: for the budget and the bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.

Public hearings and meetings are where residents shape town decisions.
