The Superintendent

Superintendent Nancy Milligan

Nancy Milligan

About 3,300 Tewksbury students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Nancy Milligan became Superintendent of Tewksbury Public Schools on July 1, 2026, after rising through the district she now leads. She had served as assistant superintendent since 2024, and the School Committee chose her to succeed Brenda Theriault-Regan, who retired after guiding the schools for years. The Superintendent proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, hires principals and teachers, and is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee. “I have been listening,” Milligan told the committee during her interview, describing an approach shaped from inside the schools she now runs.

The School Committee

Tewksbury’s School Committee has five members, all elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms at the April town election. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. The committee meets about twice a month, and the meetings are public, which means a Tewksbury student who shows up can speak.
