Who Represents South Hadley

South Hadley is not split in either chamber, which makes this simpler than it is for a lot of Massachusetts towns. One state representative, one state senator and one member of Congress speak for the whole town, so the person who answers for your street is the same person who answers for every other street in South Hadley. Neighboring Granby is split between two House districts and Chicopee and Springfield are split in the Senate, so if you are checking for a town nearby, check the precinct. The Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the whole state, South Hadley included. Five names, and they cover everything from a state road repair to a federal tax bill.

State Senator

Senator Oliveira chairs the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development and sits on Ways and Means in both the joint and the Senate committees, which is where the state budget is written before it reaches the floor. He also sits on Election Laws. South Hadley is in his district whole, so there is no precinct line to check before you write to him.

State Representative

All of South Hadley sits in the 2nd Hampshire House district, which the town shares with Easthampton, Hadley and part of Granby. One representative speaks for the whole town.

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Representative Gómez sits on the Joint Committees on Revenue, on Municipalities and Regional Government, on Public Safety and Homeland Security, and on Agriculture and Fisheries. He was president of the Easthampton City Council before winning the House seat in 2024.

In Washington

All of South Hadley sits in the 1st Congressional District, which runs west from the Connecticut River valley across the Berkshires to the New York line. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats.
