John Franzoni
About 36 students start their day at Emma L. Miller Elementary School, and the person who answers for their schooling also answers to several neighboring towns. John Franzoni is Superintendent of the Northern Berkshire School Union, a shared-superintendency union that lets small hilltowns pool one central office. Savoy runs its own district and its own elected School Committee, and its school serves prekindergarten through grade 6. When students reach grade 7, the committee votes the tuition that sends them to schools in neighboring districts. The Superintendent proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and is hired by and reports to the elected committee, which carries out an annual evaluation.

The School Committee
The Savoy School Committee has three members elected town-wide, and it sets policy for the town’s own school, approves its budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent through the Northern Berkshire School Union. Because Savoy runs its own district rather than belonging to a regional one, this committee answers to Savoy’s voters alone. Two seats are held now, by Amber Will, who chairs the committee, and Emily Hungate, who won a seat by write-in at the May 20, 2026 town election. A third seat drew only blank votes that day and is open, which means any registered resident who wants a hand in the town’s school can step toward it.
