About 51 students start their day at Rowe Elementary School, and the person who answers for the district’s academics and budget is the Superintendent. John Franzoni leads the Northern Berkshire School Union, the shared arrangement through which several small hilltowns employ one superintendent between them, and Rowe Elementary is one of the schools he oversees. The Superintendent proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and is hired by and reports to Rowe’s own elected School Committee, which evaluates the office each year. Rowe keeps its own single-town elementary district rather than joining a regional district, so decisions about its one school are made by people Rowe voters elect.

The School Committee
The Rowe School Committee has three members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets policy for Rowe Elementary School, approves the school budget, and works with the Northern Berkshire School Union that employs the Superintendent. Its meetings are public and posted at Rowe Elementary School, which means a Rowe student who shows up can speak.
